RWA Consultant, Carol Jenkins, promoted to UKGI Senior Management Team

We are delighted to announce that Carol Jenkins ACII has joined the UKGI Senior Management Team at UKGI, as our new Head of Consultancy (Memberships). Carol joined RWA in 2017, and is highly regarded by the rest of the team and our clients. Carol will be managing a team of consultants that support our retainer clients in the field. As well as working as an RWA Compliance Consultant, Carol has worked in loss adjusting and broking throughout her 30-year insurance career.

We have taken the time to ask Carol to give some more insight into her background and why she loves working as a Compliance Consultant:

What is it about compliance and consultancy that excites you?

"I absolutely love my job and working alongside the firms I assist.

I have built close working relationships with the firms I support and it always absolutely makes my day, when I am told I am considered to be one of their team.

Each firm and its Management Team can be different in terms of how the business is structured etc. Nonetheless, in my experience most firms have one thing in common – the Owners, Managers and wider Team want to do the right thing for every customer they have and that’s what makes my job so enjoyable.

My role is a technical one, and with the FCA ‘rule book’ being so extensive, it is useful that I enjoy researching what firms need to do, to ensure I am providing them with the absolute best advice around anything FCA regulatory.

I am also so lucky to be supported by a fantastic team, who I will always turn to when I need help or guidance, particularly when a query is one where the interpretation can be subjective."

Can you give us some background to what you have learned in your insurance career?

"The skills and experience gained during that time have proved to be fantastic for the role I now do, as I am able to look at issues facing firms with a wide range of knowledge and insight.

I have supported firms with many queries over the last 6 years, including Change in Control/new Senior Manager applications, s165 and s177 FCA questionnaires, Reg Data/Connect returns, Client Money issues, IDD considerations, Training and Competence planning/oversight and far-reaching matters of general Corporate Governance, etc.

This is in addition to learning about developments as they arise. The past number of years have been incredibly busy on the regulatory front, with the interruption of the pandemic and then the introduction of Pricing Rules, Product Governance and Consumer Duty considerations alongside all the FCA surveys and new RegData returns."

Is there anything personal about yourself that you would be happy to share?

"I am a very proud Mum to my wonderful daughter who is approaching 27 (how the heck did that happen)! She is making her own way in her chosen field of Marketing and PR, having achieved a Masters in the former and a First-Class Honours degree in the latter (yep I am very proud)!

I am a very sociable person. I love catching up with my family, friends and colleagues, whether that’s going away, meeting up for dinner/drinks or a walk and coffee.

I love cooking, reading, travelling and walking. I also enjoy going to the gym a couple of times a week – I find it’s great for people watching too!

I am artistic and creative and really enjoy anything involving design.

I am a lifelong Welsh Rugby fan during the good and the bad times! I also love any big sporting occasion. In that regard, I am really looking forward to visiting France in October 2023 to support ‘my Wales’ in the Rugby World Cup, while spending time travelling and enjoying the French culture and of course its wonderful food and wine!"
