Earlier this month, the Development Zone issued its 800,000th badge to learners – a major milestone in the development of a platform that has become embedded at the heart of hundreds of brokers’ T&C programmes.
When numbers get to this sort of scale, it can be easy to forget what they actually represent and get distracted by technicalities. In this case, it’s not the fact that so many badges have been issued by the platform that should be celebrated, but that these badges have been earned by thousands of individual learners across hundreds of firms successfully completing online training topics. The word “successfully” in that last sentence is particularly important – not only did learners attempt assessments, but they achieved or exceeded the baseline of 80% or demonstrated that they had met the platform standard required in extended assessments.
Each badge represents a different triumph for an individual learner – whether it is demonstrating an understanding of a topic in their induction period, maintaining their knowledge of a specialist product, or reflecting on the requirements and importance of the role of a supervisor within their firm. Each of these achievements has a significance to the learners involved, but also to the firms that employ them.
Badges on the Development Zone are issued with a “lifetime” of twelve months, meaning that learners need to reattempt assessments annually to demonstrate their continuing understanding of topics – it’s not simply a case of click and forget. Many learners will have extensive collections of badges on the Development Zone representing the time they have invested in training and development – often exceeding the requirements of their training plans and exploring new and different topics alongside the regulatory and technical topics needed to be competent in their own role.
Many of the learners on the Development Zone have also started to earn DevZone points by completing training topics about the platform itself from our DevZone Academy, with the first learners now reaching the level of “Expert User”. This is a superb achievement, and reflects a real commitment to getting the most from the platform and the range of tools it provides.
On behalf of the entire Development Zone team, I’d like to congratulate all of our learners on their achievements to date and look forward to reflecting on the millionth badge in the coming months.
