The Workplace Learning Shift Is Here…

Workplace Learning

For the last few years we have been working with hundreds of businesses and thousands of learners to develop and deliver engaging online learning that is reminding people of the importance of developing their workplace skills.

Having seen years of bad and expensive online learning, the team at RWA were determined that workplace skills development should no longer be a chore. Instead we wanted to develop something that empowered the workforce and made a positive change in their lives as well as for the businesses within which they work.

We are therefore extremely proud to have launched our new online learning system for businesses, My Development Zone.

This new online learning system brings feature rich e-learning to individuals and businesses of all sizes, for the low monthly cost of £5 per month. This manageable price gets you access to every course and feature, no matter how big or small you are. No packages, no bolt-ons and no premium features. It has been described to us as ‘the Netflix of e-learning’ by one of our early adopters.

Why have we chosen this model?

Change is needed. The workplace learning shift is here. Your people expect it, your customers expect it and the communities within which you work expect it. There are workplace learning skill gaps in education, within the work environment, and within local economies.

Recent research published by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) suggests that up to 80% of young people in Britain do not possess the basic skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. It’s a worrying statistic and one that we have seen ourselves as our company has grown and gone through our own recruitment process.

If we couple this with other research from Gallup, which suggests that 70% of people in management roles are not well equipped for the job, then we can start to fully understand the skills crisis facing businesses on a daily basis.

Improving employability skills and workplace development skills is important. Your people are your biggest asset. Look after them and challenge them to develop. More and more people in the workplace fulfil multiple roles and want to learn new skills to help them grow.

If your people are skilled and have the right knowledge, then they will add tremendous value, deliver a great service and promote your business to your customers. It’s a simple equation.

By adopting these small changes in your business, you will develop a more creative and forward thinking work force who will work better together, will provide a better service to your customers and they will help your business develop and become more sustainable.

Online learning through My Development Zone provides evidence based learning and knowledge assessment that can be used by businesses to better understand their learning and training needs. From our point of view, it makes sense to give autonomy to the workforce to help them choose their own workplace learning pathways and to encourage them to take ownership of their personal and professional development.

Who is My Development Zone suitable for?

The way we have approached the solution is to focus on a flexible and scalable platform that is not exclusive and not just aimed at the large-scale audiences.

The solution can work for the following:

Individuals – such as those looking to develop their own workplace skills, those wanting to enhance their CVs, business start-ups and those looking to learn on the go.

Businesses of all sizes – managers can set-up team structures and push learning to their employees; we can help you better understand how to lead teams and identify training needs; and you can use it to help you develop a learning culture in your business and improve employee autonomy.

Public sector – the solution is scalable across departments and provides evidence based learning to support audits. It can be rolled out to community groups and initiatives aimed at helping people into the world of work.

Charities - online learning is ideal for service users who wish to enhance their workplace and employability skills. Being able to complete learning at your own pace and in your own time can be a real confidence boost for those who find it hard to access face to face training.

Schools and school leavers – the solution is ideal for those who want to prepare for the world of work, by improving CVs, helping you get ready for interviews, and also to encourage entrepreneurship.

Our Results

We have been working for the last 5 years with Aviva to deliver e-learning to their insurance broking community. Aviva’s My Development Zone was rolled out 18 months ago and this platform has been hugely successful. In the first 12 months, we saw a 489% increase in usage based on the previous year and doubled licence numbers to over 8,000. It’s grown fast and has helped us develop a community of professionals who understand the benefits of workplace learning.

Since that launch, we have issued nearly 100,000 badge rewards and we continue to see month on month growth. The feedback from our learners has been tremendous.

It’s this great response that saw RWA make it to the final of the e-Learning Development Company of the Year awards in 2015 and become selected as one of the 2016 Wales Digital Dozen, showcasing those firms in Wales who are making a big impact in the Welsh digital space. The team at RWA have showcased the system in other countries and we enter 2017 in discussions within the private & public sector, schools, government agencies and trade associations. We are proud of that.
